How To Tell If You Have A Ford PATS Issue

Posted by John Eimer on

When you replace your PCM in a Ford/Lincoln/Mercury, the process is not plug and play if your vehicle does have Ford's OEM security - Passive Anti Theft Security or PATS. Most of these vehicles do have PATS and there are some additional steps which will need to be executed. Sometimes you can do these on your own. Sometimes you will need special software to complete this process. It will just depend on which vehicle you have.

Ford also requires you have two unique keys to update the PATS system. So if you only have one key, or if you have a cloned key, you will need to be sure you have a second unique key (not cloned) before you can update the PATS system.

Thanks to FordTechMakuloco for putting out this great video which explains how to determine if you have a PATS issue or not. We hope this will help you understand a little better what is going on in your vehicle after watching this short video.

If you think yo are having a PATS issue, reach out to us and we will see if we can help. Let us know if you have any questions. As always - YOU GOT THIS!

  • someone I know has 10 identical 2010 E150 (fleet) vehicles that have been starting and running for years with standard steel (no chip) replacement keys.
Recently, 1 was towed in, no crank no start
    with the “anti-theft” light on.
    any clues on this?
